pretty self explanatory.

How is anime in your school? is it popular? looked down on? or is it just not that big of a deal and treated like everything else?

I don't know if its just the area I'm in, but from what I've noticed is that its pretty much treated the same everywhere depending on who you are. usually there is always only a small portion of the school who are really interested in anime, yet generally the whole school knows of some type of anime, and has a sense of what it is. Things like dbz, pokemon, yu-gi-oh, etc. ya'noe, the things that EVERYONE grew up to no bad how much you try to front on it. then theirs this huge cult of anime extremist that tend to always travel together.

Most of of the time if you address people on it at a calm level you can exchange in casual talk about it. you'd be surprised at how many and what kind of people watch anime. I'll have conversation with people who are bangin about naruto and stuff. its hilarious. usually the conversatoin goes something like " eh, you saw how that nicca sasuke put all dem boys on dey @$$ yesterday?"....... "aah hell nah, sasuke can't f'ck with my boy naruto. all he gotta do is pull out dat rasigiga sh!t and its over"...."how he gonna do that if he still got that yang seal on him dumbie."...."oh yeh...tru dat tru dat".

once again, HILARIOUS. then their are the people who are sorta in the middle, I've noticed these people are pretty low key though. like you wouldn't know their into it unless you just came out and asked them about it.

but I'm forgetting about the third group, the overly anime crazed otaku/emo's. if it sounds like this tittle is a little bias..well..thats because it sorta is. I hate these people, they ruin it for all anime fans. I have no problem with having a passion for anime, its just these guys take it a bit "too far". walking around the mall with naruto headbands, constantly squinting your eyes and complaining about how bad you wish you were born asian, stuff like that. it gives a false image of anime fans and overshadows the whole genre with this sense of..."weirdoness".

regardless, people never get picked on for it or anything like that in which I've heard is quite different in other areas. once again, maybe this is just where I'm from.

Some people at my school don't know what anime is beyond "Japanese cartoons". They'll remember Sailor Moon and DBZ and Yu-Gi-Oh, and maybe Naruto, because lots of them watch/watched those shows.

On the other hand there are giant groups of people - not all of them antisocial nerds, either - that watch anime and trade manga back and forth and that kind of thing. Also, there is an anime club (which I am a sorta member of) that is not so much a club as it is a group of friends who watch anime in the library during lunch. I stopped going because they're watching Naruto right now, but I went when they were watching Fruits Basket.

We don't have weeaboos at my school, thank god. There was one girl at my old school like that, but she had piles of issues even outside of being an otaku idiot. There's a guy that calls himself Naruto, but only when people bring up the show, which is just about never, and I suspect that he's joking.
Overall I'd say that people at my school are positive toward anime and even manga, maybe because we don't have greasy unwashed otaku kids around here ruining it for the casual watchers and readers.

Well, as far as I know, at my school, there's only a small group of people who watch it. Which includes me and two other kids in my 3rd period. Now, I'm sure a lot more people like it than I've talked two, but those are the main few. However, we do have one of those "take it too far" otaku's who actually came to school one day dressed as Byakuya Kuchiki from Bleach.

... So yeah....

I would have loved to see that. Was he wearing the shinigami uniform and captains vest? The whole costume? Id were like a jacket from an anime, like the Shinobi vests on Naruto but I dont think id ever wear a full costume. Thats just taking things too far.

As for anime at my school. Well I think theres at least 20 of us throughout all the grades and all 700 students. I only talk to about half of them regularly and havnt even talked to some of them. Most of the anime fans at my school are still stuck in the past (meaning they only like the old stuff they used to watch years ago) though I am getting some of them to venture out and watch new anime. Its a very slow process however. Most of the other people at my school either don't care, dont know about it, or make fun of us for it. There are the few out there who are friendly though.

People who ruin anime for the rest of us? Ya we got at least three of them at our school but there pretty easy to control when they get crazy. They do however give a bad image of the anime/manga culture to the rest of the school. Ex: One of them starting yelling at the top of his lungs to his cousin across the hallway because she turned off the Cake song (ending song from portal) during announcements because it annoyed. The guy was seriously pissed. We were kind of upset too but all we did was joke around.

Im known in the small group of anime fans at school as the "cool otaku". I love anime and can sometimes start ranting about it but I never actually get into a huge arguement or go on a rampage over it like the three real otakus at my school do. Just being labeled an otaku kind of bothers me since its an extremely mean thing to say in Japan but the american anime culture has changed it into a compliment somehow so I guess its alright.

well at my school there are people that watch it, most people dont care but then casue of the third party that you mentioned there are people who think anime is all for, well, basicly losers. I my self am in the middle group but i have no problem sharing i just dont normally bring things up out of the blue. I mean over all most people dont care really. they just think it is another type of shows. like some people like reality tv, others games shows, and some saop operas. she they dont judge

At my school it's all kind of up in the air. We just started an official anime club at the school this year. Only thing is that the president of the club was skipping school the last day we were supposed to have club before break or midterms : / I'm one of the small handful of members in the school's club, though I have a large number of friends who lend eachother manga and we all share anime. Most of the people are cool with anime and manga, but there are a lot of people who will walk around repeatedly mispronouncing anime and manga just to grate peoples nerves, and they hate anyone who has anything to do with 'stupid foreign cartoons'. I've come to know there's quite a lot of band people who are into it. There aren't really any otaku's at my school. I mean some people will come back from the weekend with their hair completely different, but its from the convention they were at *shrugs*. Some of the people who had only skimmed through some of the newer anime and weren't quite sure about it.....I steered them towards some old classics like the REAL old classics so they'd get a bit of a taste and now they're all for it. We're working towards bringing anime and manga into a better light at my school.

At my school anime is nothing. Nobody likes it besides like the secretive people. It gets so annoying. Whenever anime pops up in a conversation everyone mainly says " oh that's a really dumb thing to watch" and they have never watched any anime before so how do they know. Like with Naruto it's really funny.

Theres a lot of us at mine, but only a few in the actual club. It's even cooler cause the teacher running the club is like crazy mad obsessed with anime. It's pretty awesome. I was talking to her and she's bitching about the owner of the anime store lol. I was too, cause he buys waaay too much stuff that nobody really wants. The whole store is pretty much just his big collection lol. Annnywho a little off topic, sorry about that.

But yeah, anime is still looked down on, but a lot of the school watches it on the TV, it's mostly the girls who put it down. Everyone else knows Death Note, Inu Yasha, the Gundam series, Naruto ofcourse. Ones that have been dubbed anyways.

Theres a big cosplay day and dance too, so you can really see who knows anime.

Lol here we go. At our school, there is a selective group of anime junkies. lol It's literally like drug dealing, many of us deal in secret, afraid for it to be passed around to too many people, ((that would also be because of the many graphic novels and Yaoi could get us suspended))

When people hear anime or manga they go into freak mode and talk about how it's only for geeks and nerds, etc etc. without giving it a try and don't even realize half of the cartoons they enjoyed as children either were or were related to anime. 8-)

They see me n my friends drawings and EVERYTIME it's "OHHH, that's that anime stuff, huh?"

In my freashmen year at school, my friends and I started an offical Anime and Gaming club, because our Art teacher is head over heels for anime and never once thought about making a club for it. So We started, one of our club trips was to go to the St.Louis Anime Convention every year from my freshmen year. During Octfest, we would raise money up for hotel room[s], club stuff and several other things. The fun thing is, a quater of the school loves anime, so we tend to bring in a lot of money. [half of the football team loves anime!]

So I guess anime is second nature in my school.

It's mad heavy at my school. We have a club made for Anime and Gaming. Everyday after class we watch Anime and eat pizza for about 2 hours then play games the rest of the night. Usually fighting games or Co-Op RPGS. It usually lasts from about 3pm-6 or 7pm, and on Friday's we stay longer, till about 8 or 9. And tomorrow we're having a party AND are judging the costume contest for the college. I might dress up for fun idk...Some Cosplay might get me 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place
