I'm hoping you've already said/done something since this was posted, Onyx, but you did open the topic up for discussion and there
is one particular thing nobody else has touched on.

is there signs that exhibit proof that they are doing said drugs?
It depends on the drug, the person, and how much they're using... but there are
always signs when someone hops on the substance abuse bandwagon. Sometimes the changes are so gradual that people don't notice until the shit hits the fan, and then said person is in so deep that it will take an act of God to get them out again.
Sometimes their sleeping habits will change. I'm not talking about small changes, either. It's noticeable. They literally
can't get out of bed... Or they can't
go to sleep in the first place.
Some people get quiet, withdrawn... they can act down or depressed.
Or they're like the Energizer Bunny on speed, going 90 MPH nonstop. They can't sit still, even for a second.
Their attitudes can change. They'll get edgy. Twitchy. Bitchy. Snap at people for little things, or nothing at all. Paranoid. Secretive. Moody.
Some lose their ability to use good judgment, and don't think before they do things.
They're more likely to get in trouble with the cops, flunk out of school, start sleeping around, or get into a car accident.
There's plenty of other warning signs, but that's a good basic start on things to look out for. (And that doesn't just apply to drug or alcohol abuse either. A lot of that can go for physical abuse, depression, etc. It shows that
something is not right.)
You honestly have to pay attention ALL THE TIME. Drugs are too easy to get ahold of and to abuse. Better to be suspicious and WRONG sometimes than to wait until a friend or a family member is in huge trouble, and then look back and say "Oh my god, it was under my nose the whole time and I just didn't want to see it." The warning signs are always loud and clear AFTER a disaster happens.
